"THE APPEARANCE OF SILENCE (THE INVENTION OF PERSPECTIVE)"

Inspired by the gardens depicted at the vanishing points of early Italian Renaissance paintings where the imagination can wander unobstructed, Sonami researched the first treaties on perspective.   These first attempts at accurately representing reality have been followed by the development of technologies, each revealing their idiosyncrasies when obsolete.

"The Appearance of Silence " does not attempt to give any historical or literal representation of the use of various technologies, rather explore the shifting perspectives between concrete representation and abstraction, the "here" and "there".

"WHY_DREAMS LIKE A LOOSE ENGINE (autoportrait)"

A farewell to the mechanical age, with a text by Melody Sumner Carnahan- (app. 30 min.long)

Sounds, controlled in real-time by the lady' s glove, come for the most part from small servo motors. This piece is performed either solo by Sonami, or with saxophonist John Ingle. More elaborate performances include live control of servo motors with the lady's glove. The sounds of the motors are then catpured and processed while the movement of the motors project moving shadows. G3 laptop running Max-MSP (Cycling'74).
